First off, I have to say this is definitely the best piece I have seen in your gallery. Your skill over the medium is excellent and the shadows and highlights give the image an excellent contrast, with the eye drawn to the lighter area of his visor. On that same note, the reflections are excellent - you even got down the distortions of the curved surface perfectly - and really give the look of being a shiny, reflective glass-like surface. The small details in his helmet are brilliantly done.
If there is one small suggestion I can give, it would be to try and add more texture to the armour in the future. I don't know if this was your intent, but his armour is very smooth and perfect, whereas I think you could add more visual interest with slight texture, scratches, etc. Also, I believe the numbers drawn on the front of his helmet don't quite match the perspective properly - they should be narrower along the bottom to match the angle of the helmet piece they are drawn on.
I gave low stars for Originality because... well, I have seen a lot of Master Chief images before. However your Technique is great and I gave high stars for Impact because when I saw the image I really did think, wow, that is some great pencil art!
So while not the most original, this piece shows a lot of talent and promise for a really great traditional artist! Keep up the excellent work and I hope this proved helpful
Firstly, I congratulate you on a great piece. I can see a lot of hard hours being put in this piece and it has paid off on a grand scale.
Now I am a massive Halo fan and am often hard to impress, but the sheer scale of detail overwhelmed me and I was taken aback. The eye is definately drawn to the Chief's visor and I can see you put a lot of effort into it and it came out near perfect. I would've liked to see a little more detail within the armor pieces myeslf, however given the fact I know the whole story, and just what Cortana was up while John was asleep I can understand why the new look of the armor looks brand new, as she had a long time to alter it so I think either way is fine.
I find myself turning my attention now to the light and dark areas. Now as this is a black and white piece I am not sure if you intended this however I noticed the sheen of the armor appears to me to be quite matte, now I believe a fresh set of armor like yours depicted in this image would have a larger sheen, a certain glow if you will. Again as I do not know whether the room you have placed John in is a particuarly dark room or not, I merely state my opinion.
Technique absolutely blew me away, impact stunned me. Vision, great. The only thing I found that suffered was originality because after all Halo is a big universe and we've all seen a great deal of it.
But through all this your talent comes through. and with your own bare hands you've given us a remarkable piece of art that I cannot avert my eyes. Brilliant work and I hope I didn't ramble on too much about the little details in an otherwise beautiful work of art.
I absolutely love the way that you altered the design from the original, but kept some of the key features to keep it recognizable. I also love the pure detail that is put into the lighting and shading of this piece.
